Sales of iPhone apps could top $1 billion

More than 60 million programs have been downloaded from Apple’s online store in the month since the iPhone was launched
More than 60 million software programs have been downloaded from Apple’s online store - iTunes - in the month since the iPhone was launched, earning the company about $30 million.
At that rate, Apple could expect a new revenue stream of about $360 million per year from related software, as owners of its iPhone and iPod Touch discover that they can enhance their devices by downloading programs from the web.

Conventional wisdom is that once Apple (AAPL) starts selling apps for the iPhone and iPod touch, people will stop “jailbreaking” their phones so they can install unofficial third-party apps. We’re not so sure: We think there could be enough demand — specifically for apps that Apple isn’t likely to approve for its store — to keep the jailbreak market going.
